In Mid 2019, HP introduced LaserJet® Pro M404 monochrome printer, it has an OEM-rated print speed of 38 pages per minute (ppm) and a monthly duty cycle rating of 80,000 pages. The multifunction (MFP) version, the Pro MFP M428, has the same print specifications, with copy, scan and fax functions added. Canon has several models based on the same print engine, including but not limited to the i-SENSYS® LBP226, LBP228 printers. Also MF443, MF445, MF446 and MF449 multifunction printers (MFPs). All of the Canon models have the same print specifications as their HP equivalents.
The only supplies item is an all-in-one toner cartridge. Replacement all-in-one cartridges have OEM-stated page yields of up to 3,000 pages (standard yield) and 10,000 pages (high yield) for HP. For Canon models, replacement all-in-one cartridges have OEM-stated page yields of up to 3,100 pages (standard yield) and 10,000 pages (high yield). The base M404n, LBP226 and LBP228 models ship with an introductory cartridge yielding 1,500 pages. All other models ship with the 3,000 page standard yield cartridge.
Cartridges for both OEM's printers require a chip for correct printer operation.
